Self-Care for Ambitious Women

Self-care should be the simplest thing in the world to take time out for. However, in our overly connected, constantly busy society taking time to power down and intentionally focus on our mental, physical, and spiritual well being is often neglected. But what if I told you that you can be successful and treat yourself well in the process?

Don’t Let The Hustle Kill You

Most of us are on the clock 40 hours or more during the week, and if you’re an entrepreneur the hustle probably doesn’t stop on Friday. Chasing coins, and attempting to propel ourselves financially and professionally is the mission that most of us commit the majority of our waking hours to. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this or working hard in general. The issue is, that some of us get so committed to the hustle that it is wrecking havoc on our physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

I can’t tell you how many times I have worked through lunch, or not taken time off to see my doctor’s regularly. I have run myself down to the point where medical intervention became necessary. The scariest thing in the world is laying in a hospital bed knowing that you put yourself there because you didn’t take time out for preventive care.

Investing in our health is one of the most important things we can do for ourselves. We only get one life and one body so maintenance and care are essential. Take time to have regular check-ups, engage in healthy activities, and take a vacation for goodness sake. Stress management along with proper rest aids in keeping you healthy, and promotes longevity. I can personally attest to performing better at work, and having more creativity when my mind is clear and I’ve had time to reset and relax.

The need for self-care, we can’t stress enough is important and essential. You aren’t lazy because some days you need to take a nap. You won’t be less successful by taking time off to take care of your health – this I promise you. Besides what do you gain by working yourself into the ground, and then being too exhausted or sick to enjoy the fruits of your labor?

Self-care doesn’t have to become just another thing you have to schedule. Many companies offer wellness benefits to their employees, because they recognize the importance of self-care. Check into what benefits your company offers and take advantage of them.  Make self-care a natural part of your life, and be intentional about taking time out to care for yourself. When you have ambition and goals, working hard is a necessary part of making things happen. However, if you are grinding so hard that you are neglecting your health and not taking time out for self-care, you are doing yourself a great disservice. Burnout does not win you any awards. So why not strive to create balance in your life. Remember – the hustle is important, but don’t let it kill you!
